They care how likely you are to file a claim, and decades of loss data say that drivers with recent violations and at-fault accidents file more of them. So every carrier maintains a rating scheme that assigns weight to each incident on your motor vehicle record — the MVR they pull at quote time and at renewal — and prices the policy accordingly.
